So, now what?
Looking back on my recent experimentation, the miniature city which was built and destroyed in under half a day, has continued to grow and rebuild elsewhere, in plans and thoughts for the final piece of this project. It was a success, it worked!
Yet, in some places it could have been better:
More lights
Different coloured buildings - (paint, card, plastic)
Different textures and surfaces - (sandpaper, corrugated cardboard)
Reflective material - (tin foil, reflective paint, mirrors)
A grander scale in the structures and city overall
3D elements or city overall? - (bottles, plates, statues, containers, tubes)
All these wishes, ideas which were not completed in the test, simply due to lack of time and the fact that I needed to know if the base idea of the experiment was going to work or not. Now that I, can hope to fulfil all these wishes/ideas, as I will be moving forward the miniature city idea, but making it bigger, stronger, grander!
Yet how you may ask?
I shall continue to design and then laser cut the cityscape elements, but this time round, instead of drawing them digitally, I shall use the faster method of markers on white paper, but taking in the conventions of the cityscapes I have already drawn and taken inspiration, recognising their patterns and repeating shapes, while introducing new elements, be it shapes, paper, colour and so on . . .
This will be challenge to create, but it's worth it. I have always loved these kinds of things, the likes of Metropolis, to Gerry Anderson's Stingray up until now with Blade Runner: 2049. Now getting to build one is incredible, my own city, in the palm of my hand.
